Schwab has changed its mutual fund transaction fee from $49.95 to $76. At first glance, it may seem like Schwab has raised its fees since it used to charge a $49.95 transaction fee, but because Schwab charged investors when they bought a fee fund and again when they sold a fee fund, investors were ultimately paying $99.95 round-trip.
Now Schwab’s fee schedule shows that investors are only charged its $76 transaction fee when they buy a fee fund, so the round-trip costs for investors are less.
