Subscriber Question
In the January issue of NoLoad FundX, you show 2011 annual returns for the S&P 500 as 2.04%. But I’m pretty sure the figure for the S&P was 0.00%.
NoLoad FundX Answer
You’re right that when you compare the price of the S&P 500 index at the start of 2011 and at the end of the year, there’s almost no difference: the S&P 500 closed 2010 at 1,257.64 and it ended 2011 at 1,257.60. But in NoLoad FundX, we publish total returns and this includes dividends. When dividends are factored in, the S&P 500 actually returned 2.04% for 2011.

I subscribe to the FundX newsletter since 2003. I would like to see added some performance data and maybe even some occasional advice regarding the federal Thrift Savings Plan investment choices, at least for the C, S, I, F, and G funds that track closely well established market indexes. There are hundreds of thousands of federal workers/TSP participants that would be interested in TSP coverage in addition to all the valuable research, funds rankings, and portfolio recommendations that placed FundX among the best newsletter for more than 25 years.
Thank you,
Simon Reidel
